Challenges

More and more companies improve their information system availability and mobility, by deploying wireless access or virtual private networks (VPN).

The access to corporate networks resources (email, VPN, Intranet) with the traditional couple login/password is a major threat for the company security policy. Indeed, passwords may be stolen or cracked by brute force; they rise critical issues induced with human memory (post-it techniques!) or renewal necessity.

Although password are widely used (because of their low prices) when low security is acceptable, they are not fitted to high security constraints.

Ethertrust Solution

Ethertrust has developed a technology for strong authentication, based on smart cards and working with Microsoft operating systems associated to the EAP-TLS technology.

The user holds a USB key, equipped with a tamper resistant smart card, which runs EtherTrust software and securely stores digital certificates. The device fully handles the authentication operations.

Mobility is enhanced, and identity theft by malware software is impossible.

Benefits

> Mobility: Users reach corporate resources from everywhere, at any time, in complete security…

> Simplicity: Users insert their key USB key and it works! The dongle is optionally protected by a four digits PIN code. Connection is faster and handier than with the OTP – One Time Password solution.

> Optimal security: Information produced by the smart card is protected by cryptographic means. Malwares are no more efficient.

> Remote update: the smart card updating is securely performed via the Internet network, with small costs
